My Most Failed Handicraft-VCT Knife Remaking Project

My Most Failed Handicraft-VCT Knife Remaking Project

Hello, friends!

In my journey of crafting some of the most popular game knife replicas on the market, such as the Octane heirloom, RGX butterfly knife, Champion knife, Spy knife, and the Skyrim Dagon Dagger, I've also experienced my share of setbacks and failures.

Today, I want to talk about the most notable failed project: the VCT knife I made a year ago. This project, despite being one of the most popular blogs on my site and receiving significant interest initially, missed the mark in several ways.

Areas for Improvement:

  1. Damascus Pattern Authenticity: The simulated Damascus pattern using bas relief didn't quite achieve the realistic look customers expected. Being an expert in metal replicas, I couldn't use real Damascus steel, which led to this compromise.

  1. Luminous Paint: The luminous light blue paint on the blade diverged from the game’s design, which features a curved white line. Though the glow effect was appealing, many preferred a more accurate replica.

  1. Handle and Blade Color: The handle’s color being the same as the blade’s detracted from its beauty. The in-game handle is more similar to black, standing in contrast to the blade.

  1. Size Issue: The replica's size wasn't as large as players imagined, causing a mismatch in expectations.

Still, I believe in continually improving upon my craft, and that's why I'm excited to share my plans for the new version of the VCT knife.

Improvements in the New Version:

1. Increased Size: The new knife will be around 26cm (10.2 inches) long, which is 4cm (1.6 inches) longer than the previous version. This added size will enhance the feel and presence of the knife.

I have made a 3D printed one for showing the new size.

2. Accurate Blade Design: The line on the blade will be corrected to match the game design more closely.

3. Black Handle: The handle will now be black, which I believe will make the knife look much cooler and closer to the original design.

4. Enhanced Damascus Pattern: I’ll use advanced technology to create a pattern that closely mirrors real Damascus steel.

5. Practical Leather Sheath: To add practicality, especially for cosplayers, a leather sheath will be included, allowing it to be conveniently carried on a belt.

6. More Color Options: I’m excited to offer all the color options available in the game. This way, you can have a knife that truly matches your in-game preferences and style.

New color option that would be available in new replica.
